Salma Hayek had her first large Hollywood part in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Then, she rose to prominence with Frida and an Academy Award nomination. Hayek was also involved with television, as producer of executive productions for Ugly Betty and other hit shows. Salma Hayek Jimenez, daughter of Spanish and Lebanese parents, was born in Mexico on the 2nd of September 1996 in Coatzacoalcos. Hayek was raised by a wealthy Catholic family. She attended convent school aged 12 in Louisiana and then lived in Houston with her aunt through her teenage years. In Mexico City she briefly attended university, but left to concentrate on acting.
